Kate Thompson
Kate Thompson received a Bachelor’s Degree in Fiber Arts from Calif. State Univ., Long Beach in 1991. She worked in the Apparel Business in Los Angeles for 20 years as a print designer (her day job). At night she continued to pursue her fine art vision creating mixed media sculptural pieces made of handmade paper, fabrics, wire and plaster. After living in Los Angeles for 30 years she moved to Charlotte, NC where she could pursue her fine art career fulltime. Painting expressive figurative works became her focus. Working on unconventional substrates such as vintage linens , ledger papers from the turn of the century , and plaster add to the haunting quality of the work. Kate teaches locally and internationally her unconventional painting techniques.
