Nivens spent his childhood in Salem, Missouri. It was in Missouri, in grammar school, that his interest in drawing began. At the age of 12, his mother bought me my first painting set. The colors consisted of blue, brown and green; any additional colors came from left over house paint. His first canvases were the inside of cereal boxes. Even as a child my passion and determination to paint was not stifled by his lack of painting materials.

His goal is to have the patrons and admirers of his work, feel as though they are in the scene. His goal is for the people to feel the calmness and sun light of his landscapes and to hear the hustle and bustle of the city life in his urban scenes.

He currently resides in Carrollton Georgia-outside of Atlanta.
