Chris Shockley  was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia, a small town 50 miles south of Atlanta. Encouraged by her mother who is a self-taught artist, Chris had an opportunity to experiment with painting at a very young age. She studied under Lamar Dodd while completing her Masters degree at the University of Georgia.

Chris loves to paint very simple scenes and is inspired by trips to Amish and rural communities. Her paintings capture the rustic beauty of the white clapboard houses, red barns, and simple Amish life set within freshly plowed fields. She has also found an intrigue with plein-air landscape painting after several painting excursions to the countryside in Vermont and Georgia. Oil and pastel are the preferred medium for her paintings.

Chris exhibited at the 2003 and 2004 Lyndon House juried exhibition as well as the 2004, 2005, 2008 Southworks juried exhibition.

Her home also serves as Black Rooster Art Gallery located in a rural setting outside of Athens, Georgia.
